This Opportunity

Are you a geologist with 3-5 years of environmental/consulting experience that enjoys technical challenges and are looking for an opportunity to work with an established environmental consulting firm that values its employee’s enthusiasm and technical contributions? If yes, we would like to welcome you to join our Portland, Maine office as a Project Geologist This position will play a key role in environmental assessment and remedial investigation projects with responsibilities to including work plan development, field operations and staff management, data synthesis and analysis, and report preparation.The Portland, Maine office of WSP is composed a multi-disciplinary science/engineering team with over 100 staff that offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects for a wide range of clients throughout the US. Your Impact

  • Working in interdisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers and other professionals to support WSP’s site assessment and remediation practices.
  • Perform environmental science work and conduct investigations, inspections, and environmental studies and surveys to gain further information on a particular environmental problem or issue, verify site characteristics, and/or to plan for future environmental needs.
  • Lead field programs and mentor emerging professionals.
  • Providing input for scope of work for remedial investigations, site assessments, and remedial design programs.
  • Provide input in developing conceptual site models.
  • Prepare and assist with completing environmental reports for assigned projects.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or closely related technical discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience working as an environmental professional.
  • Experience with CERCLA and RCRA-based investigations.Proficient in MS Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements and agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to technical reports and work plans.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to team members.
  • Ability to work independently with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Overnight travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desire
  • Familiarity using Surfer or other contouring software
  • Familiarity with aquifer testing analysis using analytical software programs (e.g. AQTESOLV, AquiferTest)
